From 27 February through 1 Mar 2015, I will be in Roanoke at Mysticon, my very first fan convention appearance. This will be an exciting time for many reasons.
First, I’ve attended many conventions over the years, but always have been one of the folks in the audience. It will be an interesting experience to suddenly be on the other side of the table doing the panels as opposed to watching and listening to them. I’ve signed up for quite a few, some in general fandom, some talking about doctoring / science in science fiction and fantasy, and one or two a bit germane to my writing.
Second, I’ll be doing some readings and at least one signing and I’m looking forward to meeting some fans and hopefully introducing some new folks to The Mussorgsky Riddle and Pictures at an Exhibition / Scheherazade by proxy. Good reads and good music – kind of like chocolate and peanut butter.
Third, Roanoke is where I completed my family medicine residency, and so this will be a homecoming of sorts. Looking forward to doing a drive by of my old house and seeing all the trees I planted back in 1997 to see how big they’ve gotten. I miss that old house sometimes…
Lastly, the road trip up with Gail Z. Martin and J. Matthew Saunders promises to be a blast. Definitely looking forward to that. I suspect we may all be hoarse before we even hit the Virginia state line… 😉
I look forward to meeting a ton of new folks and reconnecting with a few folk I’ve met from previous cons. From what I understand, Mysticon is SOLD OUT and therefore this looks to be one heck of a weekend!
My schedule is listed below. Hope some of you come and check out some of my panels, readings, and signings!
Mysticon or bust!
